ABOUT ME
Brodee Smith-Lawrence

Is there a difference between fit and healthy? Why?
-
There is a major difference between being fit and being healthy.
-
Healthy is the maintenance of the body to ensure quality and quantity of life.
-
As mentioned above
-
-
Fitness is taking the next step to push the limits of your body to reach a goal without compromising your health.
-
This could look like someone who exercises to become a better runner and strives to break their record time of their last 5k.
-
Or someone who increases the weight that they can push on the bench press, or any strength related exercises.
-
-
What types of personal training do you do? What special considerations do you make when building a workout?
My concentrations in personal training are...
-
Strength training
-
Endurance strength training
-
Strength training for improved force output (general Strength)
-
Hypertrophic Strength training (Mass increase)
-
Aerobic fitness examples would be
-
Increased distance output for running
-
Increased running speed
-
Improving cardiovascular function (health of the heart)
-
Training for 5k or other
-
Corrective exercise
-
Improving muscular functioning
-
Postural improvements
-
Reestablishing muscular balance
-
Removing sources of muscular pain
Every workout program is supported with a nutritional program that matches my client’s needs and goals such as...
-
Decreasing body fat
-
Increasing muscle
Every program I write is personalized to my client both in exercise and nutrition, this means taking into account factors such as
-
Past Injuries
-
Age
-
Sex
-
Height
-
Weight
-
Goals
-
Needs
-
Psychological status
I work with a variety of professionals and experienced trainers. We like to work as a team to best benefit our clients, so working with me is like working with our entire team!
I believe there is a difference between just doing an exercise and doing an exercise right.
This also applies to healthy lifestyles.
If we want to meet our goals then we need to make sure that we are taking the appropriate actions that will create the results we desire. That being said I concentrate on meeting clients goals in the most efficient and safe way possible through safe and effective methods. As well as meeting our nutritional requirements for both the exercise and a healthy life style.
There is a reason that personal training is called Personal Training it is meant to be personalized to each of my individual clients. I do not believe in cookie cutter workouts each workout with my clients is specific to them. So please help me serve you best and tell me exactly what you need and want so I can create a program that honors your goals and needs best.
What does health mean to you?
-
Health means honoring your body in a fashion that facilitates growth and maintenance without pain or decrease in quality of life.
-
We, as a society, like to take health for granted until presented with a threat to our health. I believe we should work on preventing both disease and injury because prevention is our most powerful tool against some of the worst threats to our health and we can combat this threat with a nutritious diet and active lifestyle.
What does a healthy person look like?
-
A healthy person looks like someone who makes decisions that are the best for their body, even if these choices might take them out of their comfort zones.
-
This could mean someone with proper posture and no pain while doing everyday activities, thus eliminating future pain. This could be someone following a healthy meal plan that gives them tons of energy and supplies them with the proper nutrition to maintain their life. This could mean someone who exercises regularly and safely to maintain their current health status.
-
Health comes in all shapes and sizes and is more deeply complicated than looking skinny or eating less fatty foods (though that does help).
-
Can anyone achieve these things?
-
Anyone who is willing to make a change can achieve both health and fitness. All you need is the mindset, the knowledge, the drive, and, in some cases, the guidance!
-
Being healthy and fit are definitely achievable goals, but sometimes they can be difficult to reach, especially when we don’t know how to attain them, what direction we wish to take them, or we can’t find the motivation to begin or to keep it going.
-
That is where I can help! I support my clients with information, direction, motivation, and the best plan to meet their needs and goals. So that they can achieve their best selves!
